Where are you from?
I moved around a lot as an Air Force kid, but my mom's family is from Washington and this is home. I spent my high school years in the foothills of Rainier -- Maple Valley, WA -- and moved to Olympia for college.

How would you describe yourself and your hobbies and interests?
I'm just a big old laid back kind of guy. I hold students to high academic integrity in my classroom, but also prioritize a sense of fun and belonging as well. I enjoy learning about the local history of the places I've lived and visited and the people who made that history. I love watching my own kids grow up, find the magic in our world and make sense of it. I also enjoy hiking, fly fishing, snow sports, foraging, and construction projects (I built a greenhouse and a large deck this last spring).

Words of wisdom
"You can't spend your life waiting to live" - The Dirt Whispered, Rise Against

"...It's because history really does matter. And it doesn’t matter just as studying the past for the past’s sake, it doesn’t matter just to fulfill this line that history repeats itself, because circumstances change and events are different. It's the fact that history is, and can be used, to inform us about the present… Historians aren’t just about facts and dates." - Why Study History?, Karen Cox
